Chapter 1
(NARRATIVE TEXT)

A. What’s Narrative Text?
          A narrative essay tells about a story. It has characters, setting and action. The characters, the setting and the problem of the narrative are usually introduced in the beginning. The problem reaches it’s high point the middle. The ending resolves the problem.

B. Purpose of Narrative Text
          To amuse or entertain the readers with actual or imaginary experiences in different ways. Narratives deal with some problematic event which lead to a crisis  or turning point of some kind, which in turn finds a resolution.

C. Generic Structure of Narrative Text
The generic structure of narrative text are:
      1)    Orientation: It is about the opening paragraph where the characters of the story are introduced
      2)    Complication: Where the problems in the story developed
     3)    Resolution: Where the problems in the story is solved
     4)    Coda: Changes of the characters or lesson/value moral of the story
  
D. Kind or Genre of Narrative Text
A) Fable: Simple fable is a story about animal which behave like human
B) Myths: stories that are believed by some people but the stories can not be true. It was told in an ancient culture to explain a practice, belief, or natural occurrence
C) Legend: It simple a story which relates to on  how a place is formed
D) Fairy tales:Story which relate much which magic things
E) Science fiction story: Story which explore the science as the background or plot of the whole story
F) Short stories: Story fo one or two pages
G) Parables: Story that illustrates one or more instructive lessons or principles. Parable differs from a fable.
H) Novels: Long even very long and complex story
I) Horror story: A story with horror contents












Chapter 2
(EXPOSITION TEXT)

A. Purpose: To give some opinion to some cases or problems and to persuade the reader or listener

B. Type of Exposition
          1. Analytical Exposition (lebih ke menyatakan pendapat kita)
          2. Hortatory Exposition (lebih ke membujuk orang buat ngelakuin suatu hal yang kita pengen, biasanya hal itu ditegaskan di paragraf terakhir atau bisa disebut recommendation)

C. Generic Structure
1. Analytical: Thesis (introduces topic), Argument (supporting opinion), Reiteration (restates)
2. Hortatory: Thesis, Argument, Recommendation










Chapter 3
(Biographical Recount)

A. Purpose: To inform by retelling past events

B. Generic Structure:

1. Orientation: Opening paragraph should answer thr question who, what, where, when and how
2. Series of Event: Chronological order
3. Reorientation: Summary and evaluation

C. Hope and Dream
Hope is something realistic and short term and dream is a long-range- goal. Actually they are just the same. They talk about something that will or won’t happen. In order to the dreams and hopes can happen, we need to do something and pray.

D. Congratulate
Congratulating is the act of expressing joy and acknowledgment for achievement and success of other people

Expressing congratulating:
      Very well done. Congratulations!
      Good job! No one deserves it more than you do
      Fantastic! Congratulations on getting the first prize
      Marvelous! I’m so proud of you
      Great! You did it. Your hard work paid at last

Responding Congratulating:
      Thank you
      Thank you, your saying this means a lot to me
      Thanks! I still can’t believe it happened. I have been dreaming about it for a long time ago
      Thanks! I am happy to make you proud
      It was nothing special. Thank you

E. Formal Invitation
          Formal invitation is an invitation which follows a dignified form, tone or style in agreement with the established norms, customs or values. Example: An invitation to the opening of a school, graduation ceremony, a wedding.


Common format of a formal invitation
-         The first line is the name(s) of the person(s) who invite(s)
-         The second line is the request for participation
-         The third line is the name of the person(s) invited
-         The fourth line is the occasion for invitation
-         The fifth line is the time and date of the occasion
-         The sixth line is the place of the occasion
-         The last line is the request for reply

(Singkatnya: Nama orang yg ngundang, permohonan untuk datang, acaranya apa, tanggal, waktu (jam), tempat, permintaan untuk dibalas (ada di pojok bawah kiri, ada CP nya)


Responding to Formal Invitation
-         1. Formal invitation should be responded to within 3 days (undangan formal harus dibalas dalam 3 hari)
-         2. Replies have to be handwritten (harus dibalas dengan tulisan tangan
-         3. Reason should be briefly started for declining the invitation (Harus ada alasan singkat jika menolak undangan)

(ribet amat yaaa... Mak gua kalo dapet undangan, kalo mau dateng ya tinggal dateng, kalo enggak ya bilang minta maaf ga bisa dateng, kaga usah pake ngirim surat segala -___-)


Example:
1. Acceptence
- Mr. and Mrs. Alvin accept with pleasure the kind invitation of Mr. and Mrs. Horan to the wedding ceremony of their daughter on Friday, the second of December at seven o’clock
- Mr. and Mrs. Alvin accept the invitation with pleasure
2. Declining:
- Mr. and Mrs. Alvin regret that they are unable to accept the kind invitation of Mr. and Mrs. Horan for Friday, the second of December at seven O’clock due to sick
- Mr. and Mrs. Alvin regret to decline to invitation due to health reasons

(intinya tuan dan nona Alvin ga bisa datang karena sakit)
